  NYC's cab of the future will soon be selected by Taxi of Tomorrow , a project dedicated to bringing innovative design to the next fleet of 13,237 iconic cabs consuming the city streets. The forthcoming official taxi has now been narrowed down to three designs—the Ford Transit Connect (above), the Nissan NV200 (below) and the KarsanVI (bottom). With environmental and passenger concerns at the forefront, cab riders have their chance to state their desires (and win $5,000 in free cabs) through the online survey set up by Taxi of Tomorrow.    While all three cabs are of the minivan style, each is slightly different in both shape and function.     Ferrari invited us to their headquarters in Maranello, Italy to see the work of the seven finalists in their year-long World Design Contest . The contest tasked the students with devising a concept car design with the brief to reduce fuel consumption and the car's overall weight in order to increase driving pleasure. The teams used Autodesk's Alias industrial design software , completing concepts first in renderings before generating 3D models. Each team displayed three different designs. Beating out 299 schools and taking home first place was the Transportation Design team at Seoul's Hongik University , who developed a "hyper efficient" two seat Ferrari.   After making the trip to Maranello, Italy to check out Ferrari's new Jean Nouvel-designed production facility and restaurant a year ago, we were lucky enough to be invited back for this year's World Design Contest in July 2011.  This time we toured the amazing V8 production line again, but also had the rare privilege of seeing many of the standout cars in Ferrari's extensive vintage collection, as well as getting an exclusive glimpse inside the FXX , Forumula 1 Clienti , and Classiche garages.  The FXX garage houses and maintains a few dozen independently-owned Ferrari FXXs, the $1.8 million non-street-legal versions of the Enzo. These superior limited production cars are significantly modified specifically for racing.
