Ilmari Tapiovaara (1914-1999) Ilmari Tapiovaara turut mengambil peran penting dalam perkembangan skandinavia dan dunia desain international pada abad 20. Setelah bekerja di Avar Aalto di London dan Le Corbusier di Paris, beliau mengangkat Eero Aarnio danYjro Kukkapuro sebagai asistennya. Fokusnya adalah meneliti tentang optimalisasi dari kursi multi fungsi, seperti The Domus Chair yang beliau ran cang untuk fasilitas duduk di asrama mahasiswa Domus di Helsinki yang memiliki fungsi sebagai kursi kantor, kursi makan dan kursi konferensi dengan sistem stacking. Sejak tahun 1951-1960, Ilmari Tapiovaara telah menerima tidak kurang dari 6 medali emas di The Triennale di Milan, rekor terbanyak dari desainer-desainer yang pernah menerima penghargaan tersebut.   NYC's cab of the future will soon be selected by Taxi of Tomorrow , a project dedicated to bringing innovative design to the next fleet of 13,237 iconic cabs consuming the city streets. The forthcoming official taxi has now been narrowed down to three designs—the Ford Transit Connect (above), the Nissan NV200 (below) and the KarsanVI (bottom). With environmental and passenger concerns at the forefront, cab riders have their chance to state their desires (and win $5,000 in free cabs) through the online survey set up by Taxi of Tomorrow.    While all three cabs are of the minivan style, each is slightly different in both shape and function. The manufacturer of NYC's current Crown Victoria model, Ford's Transit Connect will come equipped with a jack for an MP3 player and increased height for taller pieces of luggage. Deceptively simple looking, a single Karmi tea canister can take artisans over a year to complete. Manufacturer Syosen , based in Yamanaka (a region known as much for its traditional lacquerware, as for its natural thermal baths), crafts their products following a half-century-old lathing technique. Carving a perfectly-rounded cup or bowl involves precisely thinning the wood, followed by several rounds of lacquering (clear in this case) and extended drying times to ensure a bone-dry core. The technique leaves the natural beauty of the vertically-cut wood grain exposed, creating a muddled elongated effect. The extensive Yamanaka process came to rise during the Edo period along with the art of the tea ceremony thanks to the area's bohemian inhabitants (including the father of haiku Basho Matsuo), drawn there by the hot springs. Tibi and Dabo are 2 cute robots designed to provide a wide range of services to citizens in Barcelona’s public spaces. The final shape of Tibi & Dabo came from different conceptualization and development techniques, such as surveys, sociological, iconicity pyramids, and ethnographical tools. These robots are the result from collaboration between the School of Design ESDi and the Institute of Robotics and Industrial Informatics (IRI), who coordinated the European, funded URUS Project (Ubiquitous Networking Robotics in Urban Settings). Tibi & Dabo are here because the project URUS attempts to analyze and test the idea how robots can interact with human beings in a cooperative way. We can use robots to assist us like when we need transportation of goods or surveillance in urban areas in order to improve life quality.
