  NYC's cab of the future will soon be selected by Taxi of Tomorrow , a project dedicated to bringing innovative design to the next fleet of 13,237 iconic cabs consuming the city streets. The forthcoming official taxi has now been narrowed down to three designs—the Ford Transit Connect (above), the Nissan NV200 (below) and the KarsanVI (bottom). With environmental and passenger concerns at the forefront, cab riders have their chance to state their desires (and win $5,000 in free cabs) through the online survey set up by Taxi of Tomorrow.    While all three cabs are of the minivan style, each is slightly different in both shape and function. Resembling a seated Segway with a hubless wheel, information about this project follows hot on the heels of the Urban Concept, and suggests Audi following the lead of BMW in seriously looking at new ways of improving mobility in cities. The art of the sports car takes centre stage at the new Porsche museum in Stuttgart. Engines, interactive displays, Porsche memorabilia and 80 cars – including prototypes and icons like the 911, all polished to a mirror-sheen – are parked on two floors of pristine, white galleries. The collection includes a 550 Spyder – the model James Dean was driving when he died in a collision with a Studebaker in 1955. Other models, like the 917 type Hollywood star Steve McQueen made famous in "Le Mans" and the 928 version Tom Cruise's character in "Risky Business" used to elude trouble, are parked bumper-to-bumper under dazzling spotlights. Richard Jenkins and his Greenbird currently holds the world land speed record for a wind powered vehicle with a speed of 126.1 mph (202.9 km/h). If BMW were to get serious about the Blue Dynamics Land Yacht, I have no doubts that it would probably smash the record. With the killer combination of BMW’s “efficient dynamics” and “active hybrid” greener emmision programs; it’s hard for Blue Dynamics not to succeed. Entry to the cockpit of the vehicle is via the elevating windscreen and the rigid sail adjusts according to the wind direction automatically or manually, through the sail control unit inside the cockpit. Hooray for designer Arturo Ariño R! I love so very much to do write-ups on wild vehicles such as this. This spectacular automotive goes by the name Phase 2.0 and it’s an all-terrain three-wheeler. It’s got an auto-pressurized tire for adapting to multiple environments such as desert dunes or swamps, its two smaller tires able to move all over the place for either front or rear-wheel situations (the big tire is of course the one that’s always in charge.) Going over irregular terrain, such as rocky regions, the tire pressure is down, going high speeds down the Autobahn, tire pressure is at the max. A.A.R. intends this vehicle to be far off into the future for real life applications, but for science fiction stories, right in the now. Designer: Arturo Ariño R

Think back 70 or 75 years to a time when design began to break away from the traditional and elaborate rationalism that had ensued for hundreds of years. As the styles of Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Streamline and Zigzag Moderne emerged after the Industrial Revolution, designers as well as consumers fully embraced the Age of the Machine.   Shiny chrome surfaces lay across curving forms or over expansive horizontal planes and glorified a dynamic new world on the move. And suddenly, design was muted as World War II approached. Inspiration was buried away, along with some innovative and visually stunning design work. Skip ahead to 2005 when some curious members of BMW Classic opened a box and found the R7 bike 75 assembled - although not in shining condition.
